Jennifer Jump is an Academic Officer for Teacher Created Materials. In this role, Ms. Jump provides professional development and training on TCM curriculum materials and Shell Education professional resources for districts, teachers, and educational trainers.
Eugenia Mora-Flores is the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California (USC). She is responsible for oversight and coordination of the teacher education degree programs. Additionally, Dr. Mora-Flores is a Professor of Clinical Education and teaches courses on first and second language acquisition, Latino culture, and in literacy development for elementary and secondary students. Prior to becoming assistant dean, Dr. Mora-Flores was the chair of the Teacher Education Program at USC. Dr.
Michael is the son of Azorean immigrants Gisela Paz and Jose Antonio. While his parents could only attend the third grade, Michael would become the first in his family to attend college, eventually earning his Master's and Doctorate in Education. Dr. De Sousa has worked in schools for over two decades as a teacher, principal, leadership coach, community organizer, and researcher. He has led award-winning schools recognized for preparing first-generation students for college and creating transformational school cultures.
In this session, Wayfinder presenters will teach you how to implement Oregon’s new SEL mandated standards in both Spanish and English. Wayfinder is integrated across the state and works with 32 Oregon districts, they have worked hard to align the state standards with their curriculum to ensure that Oregon schools can put these standards into effective practice. During this session- each of the five core SEL standards will be aligned to a Wayfinder activity for participants to take to their districts and use with their staff and students.
Shift the paradigm from schooling done TO communities to authentic collaboration WITH communities. Multilingual families can offer valuable assets and perspectives to our schools, yet too often, schools do not position them as leaders. This workshop will help participants reflect on their family engagement practices and explore research-based strategies. Through critical and contextualized frameworks, participants will reflect on the mindsets, relationships, and practices that allow families to be leaders and co-designers of their children's education.
