Compassionate Leadership: A student’s perspective on Advocacy and Mentorship

A student’s perspective on Empathy, Mentorship, and the power of leadership in Advocacy. This keynote offer’s a young person’s journey into making impact through effective and empathetic mentorship, and the promotion of values such as leadership, understanding, and Compassion.

La’Shawanta Spears-Hardy graduated from Portland State University in 2000, with a BA in Speech Communications.  Later returning to George Fox University, earning a MA in School Counseling.  After working in the David Douglas School District for 10 years, she decided to return to school and pursue her IAL in School Administration.  La’Shawanta has served as a David Douglas SD Assistant Principal for seven years, Diversity Equity and Inclusion and recently assigned as Asst. Superintendent of DEI.

Caitlin Sullivan is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Leading Now, an initiative to support K-12 superintendents in politically complex environments so they can advance their commitment to all students.  Her background includes serving for nearly a decade at the Achievement Network (ANet), a national education nonprofit that works alongside school and system leaders to support high quality instruction for students in under-resourced communities.

Jennifer Rojas is a Senior Impact Manager with the Cook Center for Human Connection and holds a Psychology degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. Jennifer has worked with schools for more than 20 years in educational technology as a Regional Curriculum Specialist, Educational Sales Director and content specialist in Reading, Science, and Multilingual Learning. Having worked with districts across the nation, Jennifer is now committed to bringing mental health resources to parents, caregivers and teachers to help their children thrive in life.

Grace Brown, a dedicated advocate for nationwide mental health, joined the Cook Center for Human Connection with extensive expertise in implementing strategies for student achievement. As an implementation and professional development expert, she's assisted educators across the nation, seamlessly combining deep expertise with a talent for simplifying and making complex concepts compelling.
