Join ODE staff in exploring a redesigned Oregon special education general supervision system. Teams will have the opportunity to become familiar with changes to ODE’s monitoring and district support activities that foster improved outcomes for students experiencing disabilities. Discussions will include data-based identification of districts for monitoring and support processes, identification and correction of non-compliance within IDEA, and equity-focused technical assistance.

Dr. Knowles is a faculty member in the Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences at the University of Oregon and the Associate Director for the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). She has diverse experiences as an educator and researcher in educational, home, and community contexts. She has worked as a paraeducator or special education teacher in juvenile justice, life skills, self-contained behavior support, and fully inclusive contexts.

Sharon Lacey has had more adventures in the past seventeen years than most people experience in a lifetime.  In addition to being a sought-after keynote speaker, Sharon is also an internationally touring headlining comedian. She performs all across the USA, has been to Iraq twice to entertain our troops, and performs stand up comedy for Ugandan audiences in two of their tribal languages.

Joe Leykam has worked in the mental health system for 20 years - 4 of which have been serving as the mental health program manager with the Corvallis School District. He is dedicated to the expansion of high quality mental health services for young people across the state and region and has worked across all levels of service in the public and private sectors. In addition to extensive clinical training, Joe is also well versed in policy development and leadership processes.

Sabrina is the Student Services Director for the Corvallis School District. She has served in education as a classroom teacher, mentor, building principal, Special Education Director, and now the Student Services Director for the past 20 years. She has spent her career as an educator pushing the boundaries of access and program development in the k-12 education system at large with a dogged focus on marginalized communities.

Dr. Noss became superintendent of the Corvallis School District on July 1, 2016. Prior to his appointment as superintendent, he served as the district’s Director of Teaching and Learning during the 2015-2016 school year.

Superintendent Noss has spent over 20 years serving in public education. During that time, he has been a teacher, principal, director of curriculum and student services, and currently superintendent.
